One of Iceland's oldest cultural traditions is the annual sheep round in September, or the Réttir. Icelandic sheep are released into the mountains in the summer.
In September, the farmers go on horseback to find them and bring them back home. Once the sheep are back, they are brought together in sheepfolds (or Réttir rings). The farmers come to the Réttir with family and friends to help sort the sheep so that each sheep goes back to their own farm.
